Alarm Mama is an alarm and reminder app that stops ringing when you walk. This policy explains what the app does with information on your phone. The short version: nothing about you leaves your device. The app’s own internet use is an optional weather lookup for a city you type in yourself; everything else online is Google Play (app updates and optional tips).

Data we collect

Alarm Mama does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The app has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers of its own. Apart from the optional weather on the StandBy clock described below, the app’s only network connections go to Google Play services on your phone: it checks for app updates and connects to Google Play Billing when the app opens, so a tip can be completed or shown with local prices, and Google Play may show an in-app update or rating prompt. Those services are provided by Google under Google’s privacy policy. The Share button opens your phone’s own share sheet with a link to the app and sends nothing by itself.

Data stored on your device

  • Your settings: alarms, reminder schedules, sound choices, daily water goal and today’s glass count, and simple statistics such as your streak. These are stored on your phone and are included in Android’s standard app backup (Google’s backup of your phone, if you have it switched on) so they survive a phone change. You can delete them at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data.
  • Motion data: while an alarm or reminder is ringing, the app reads the accelerometer and the step sensor to count your steps. This data is processed in memory on the phone in real time and is not stored or transmitted.

Permissions and why

  • Light sensor (no permission needed): the StandBy clock reads the room brightness, on the device only, to switch to a dim red tint in the dark. Nothing is stored or sent.
  • Physical activity: lets the app use your phone’s built-in step sensor while an alarm is ringing.
  • Notifications and full-screen alarms: needed to show the ringing screen, including over the lock screen.
  • Exact alarms: needed so alarms ring at the exact time you set.
  • Run at startup: needed to re-arm your alarms after the phone reboots.
  • Vibrate, keep device awake: needed while an alarm rings.

Weather (optional)

The StandBy clock can show the weather. It only does so if you choose a city in Settings. The app then asks Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free and open weather service, for the current weather at that city’s coordinates, about every 30 minutes while the clock is on screen (a few minutes after a failed attempt). The request contains only the coordinates of the city you typed, never your phone’s location, and no account or identifier of any kind. As with any internet request, Open-Meteo’s servers see your IP address; their privacy policy is at open-meteo.com. Remove the city in Settings and the app makes no weather requests at all. City search uses Open-Meteo’s geocoding service in the same way, sending only the name you typed.

Payments

Optional tips are processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment; Alarm Mama never sees your payment details. The app only remembers that a tip was given, and when, so it can show a thank-you badge on its home screen; that record is kept with your settings on your phone (and in your phone’s backup, like the settings). Google’s handling of that data is described in Google’s privacy policy.

Children

Alarm Mama is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
